The Good, the Bad and the Ugly: Golden Globes 2012

I am a huge dork when it comes to awards shows. I am giddy like a little kid on Christmas when the red carpet starts. I plopped myself down on the couch when the carpet started at 5 pm last night to watch the arrivals and interviews. I clearly should never meet any celebrity because I would be a completely star struck nerd.

The real appeal of the red carpet, for me, is the fashion. I LOVE seeing what everyone wears, how they wear their hair and their jewels. And seeing George Clooney in a tuxedo isn’t so bad either 🙂

As with every awards show, there were fashion winners and losers. I have my favorites and some that I thought could have used a better stylist. Big trends of the night: blush colors and jewel tones.

Let’s start with some of my favorites:

Claire Danes in J Mendel. Stunning. Stunning. Flawless.

Reese Witherspoon in Zac Posen. So beautiful on her figure.

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang. Again, making her gorgeous figure even more amazing.

Kate Beckinsale in Cavalli. So pretty.

Charlize Theron in Dior. The dress is amazing, gorgeous and her hair and makeup is perfection.

Emma Stone in Lanvin. This dress will probably not be everyone’s favorite but I adore the colors and shape on her. Plus her hair and makeup are beautiful.

Tina Fey in Oscar de la Renta. It’s hard to believe she just had a baby not too long ago. And for someone who normally wears black on the red carpet, I thought this fuchsia was an amazing choice for her.

As much as it pains me to say this (because I am not an Angelina fan. at all. Team Jen!) but she looked incredible. I love the red peeking out at the top of this Atelier Versace dress. And the red lip and pulled back hair are perfect. Darn it.

George Cooney (not sure who his tux is by, but he is sure looking dapper) and Stacy Keibler in Valentino. Probably the most gorgeous couple on the red carpet. Her dress, hair and jewelry are to  die for.

Unfortunately, not all of the celebs there were looking as sharp as those above. Here are some of my worst:

Sarah Michelle Gellar in Monique Lhuillier. I am not digging the tie-dyed cupcake dress. Not at all. Sorry, girl.

Piper Perabo in Theysken’s Theory. It’s wrong on so many levels. I don’t even know what to say.

Julianna Margulies in Naeem Khan. I don’t hate this dress, but it’s also not one of my favorites. I kind of dig the color but I don’t like the fabric. I do like her earrings, though, but not with the dress.

Zooey Deschanel in custom Prada. Again, I don’t HATE this dress, but she is so adorable and popular right now, she could have done much better. And she had a weird sideburns things going on with her hair.

Natalie Portman in Lanvin. Again, not horribly awful, but the dress does nothing for her shape and I don’t like all of the extra fabric coming out of her side. She can do better. She just had a baby, too and looks amazing already!

Michelle Williams in Jason Wu. What is up with the most talented dressing so badly? I just don’t like the fabric of this dress at all. The shape is pretty, as is the color, but I just think it was a poor choice for the Golden Globes. Her hair and makeup are flawless, though.

What a great way to start the awards season. So many did it right, and for those who did it wrong, there are always the SAGs and the Academy Awards coming up!

  1. My favourites are Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang (she looked breathtakingly stunning). Jenna Dewan in Maria Lucia Hohan (perfection from head to toe). Dianna Agron in Giles Deacon (a very risky choice but it made her look great). Salma Hayek in Gucci (amazing). Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace (she looked increadible). Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackerman (only Tilda is able to pull it off) and Nicole Kidman in Atelier Versace (Nicole looks absolutely flawless).
