Get Striping

It’s no secret around here that I love a good blazer. And when I saw that striped blazers were hot this season, I was doubly excited. I love blazers. I love stripes. Hence, I love striped blazers. What do I love so much about them? They are classic in a very Ralph Lauren American Sportswear kind of way. They are extremely versatile and can be worn with just about anything. And I love the preppy feel that they bring to an outfit. Seriously, if you want to prep up plain jeans and a white tee, throw on a striped blazer. Easy!

Don’t worry about having to look high and low to find one. They are everywhere – online and in stores!

Forever 21. Great buy!

That is just a drop in the bucket. You can find this style virtually anywhere right now. Obviously, I focused on the white/navy pattern because it’s the most versatile and the most wearable. There are other colors, but the majority of what you’ll see in stores and online will be these, possibly white/black or gray/white. In choosing a blazer, it’s important to find one that flatters your figure. I personally like a blazer that hits no lower than my upper thigh, with no more than 2 buttons.

As I said before, there are a lot of ways to wear a striped blazer. It can be worn over jeans, shorts, crops, dresses or skirts. The navy/white version can be worn with almost any color.

I’m sure some of you are thinking that you can’t wear horizontal stripes because they make you appear wider. And that’s simply not true. Perhaps a tight shirt with wide horizontal stripes would be unflattering. But in the case of the striped blazer, it’s all in the fit. If it fits you well, nips in where it’s supposed to and hits you at the right spot on the bottom, it will not widen you. Trust me.

If you want to add a layer to a shorts and tee outfit, this blazer is perfect! Wear it open to keep the effortless, casual feel.

It’s also great with any of the season’s colored jeans. I like it with this coral pair, but would also look great with kelly green, mint, red or yellow! Again, wear it open. I rarely button my blazers.

Pair the blazer with a little white dress for spring/summer. Add a pop of color with your jewelry or shoes and keep all other accessories neutral.

These are just 3 ways to wear a striped blazer. If you choose to get one, experiment with it and find new ways to wear it. I have a feeling it will become a staple for your spring/summer wardrobe!
