Bare Your Best Shoulder

I am a big fan of the one-shouldered style dress or shirt and have been for ages, like since I was in 9th grade and bought my first “going out” top. It’s probably because I think my shoulder and collarbone area is one of my best features. And aren’t we always told to play up your assets and flaunt your best area? So that’s what I do. This style has been all over the red carpet this year as well. Here are my favorite one-shoulder moments so far in 2012:

I love Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood at the Academy Awards. The one-shoulder detail is so chic.

Elizabeth Banks is another favorite in Versace. I love the color and the detailing.

Finally, Emily Blunt stunned in this green Oscar de la Renta one-shouldered gown at the SAG awards. Simply stunning.

This is a trend that easily translates to everyday life, though, as opposed to black-tie events or Hollywood red carpets. Pair a one shoulder top with skinny jeans for a chic night out. Or wear a fabulous flowy one-shouldered dress to a summer wedding.

Here are some great picks:

This print feels cool and fresh.

Now this is bright pink. Brides, this would be a great dress for a bachelorette party! Sure to get you noticed!

Sexy. I love the flowing half sleeve.

Lovely draping.

Sparkle, of course.

I love the Grecian feel of this maxi.

A different take on the classic black top.

Pretty and feminine top.

I like the detail on the shoulder of this top.

Lovely feminine top.

This Missoni-esque top is a great find for summer!

One thing to keep in mind when wearing one shouldered tops and dresses is that most don’t need a necklace to embellish it – especially those that already have details and embellishments on them. Instead, choose earrings or bracelets and leave your neck and chest unadorned.
