Right off the bat, I have a confession to make. I didn’t watch the red carpet OR the actual awards show. We made the brilliant decision to get rid of cable and didn’t think we would have any need to ever watch our local channels, so failed to get antennae for our tv. AND I foolishly thought I could watch the red carpet and the golden globes via live streaming on my iPad. Never have I been so wrong. I am inconsolable for the majority of the evening. However, as I told my husband, I’m a fighter and I got through it. [And spent an hour this evening watching Amy & Tina’s commentary and some of the acceptance speeches] I need Amy & Tina to host every show on every channel always.
Just because I didn’t watch doesn’t mean I can’t judge though. As always, some red carpet OMG moments and some wtf was she thinking moments?! Some of my favorites on my worst dressed list and it greatly pains me. But some great trends were on the carpet – beautiful shades of green and blush [with LOTS of sparkle & shine]. As always, ladies in neutrals stunned. And some amazing burgundy+scarlet combinations that I LOVE. Read on.
Naomi Watts in Tom Ford. This dress didn’t blow me away, but she looks so beautiful and it is so classic. There is nothing wrong with this.
Allison Williams in McQueen. I love this cool neckline of this ultra chic dress.
Amy Adams in Valentino. An example of the burgundy + scarlet combo that I looooooove. Simple but stunning.
Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney. Not only is she the funniest woman alive, she looks fantastic in this sleek black dress. Very very good.
Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive. She is always one of my favorites and this dress was no exception. Gorgeous!
Emma Roberts in Lanvin. She looks like a movie star – so perfect. I love the blue earrings as well!
Emma Watson in Dior. Eeeeeeeee I looooooooooove this outfit so much I could just dieeeeeeeeeeee.
Jessica Chastain in Givenchy. Another one of my favorites, always. This dress isn’t the best she’s ever worn, but she always look so great. Her hair and makeup are beautiful.
Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn. This may be the first time I’ve ever liked something she has worn, but I love the details in this dress.
Julie Bowen in Carolina Herrera. A lot of people will say she is on their worst dressed list, but I really like this look on her. Red + purple FTW!
Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad. She is always so perfect. I love the sparkle in this dress! Sometimes not taking a risk really pays off.
Kate Mara in J.Mendel. Amazing dress! Amazing hair! This was a home run.
Kerry Washington in Balenciaga. I’m a little partial at this moment because I just discovered Scandal and love everything about Olivia Pope, want to be her and have her entire wardrobe. But this look is still stunning. She looks great with her little bump!
Lupita Nyong’O in Ralph Lauren. This was the very best fashion moment on the carpet. The shade of red with her skin tone and the cool cape detail – takes my breath away!
Olivia Wilde in Gucci. All pregnant celebrities need to take a note from this lady and do this. All of this. She looks phenom.
Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta. This is so beautiful, so stunning and so Zooey. I love it.
Zosia Mamet in Reem Acra. She gets most improved award – her looks are normally hideous. But this is beautiful and classy.
In the Middle – a few celebs didn’t quite end up on the bad list but weren’t good enough for the good list.
Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen. The skirt is too big, the bodice is perfect and the jewels are just a little too much. Undecided.
Mila Kunis in Gucci. Beautiful dreamy gray but a little boring. And that’s coming from me – the lover of all sparkles.
Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera. I like this dress but it’s a little boring for Taylor. And she’s been looking so great lately – definitely a miss but not bad perse.
Tina Fey in Carolina Herrera. Not a big fan of the pattern but I love Tina too much to put her on my worst list.
Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung. I always love what she wears and I always love what Prabal designs, but this is not good. If the skirt was all black, I would have loved it.
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior. Please don’t stone me to death. I don’t like this dress. J.Law can do so much better. Her hair, makeup & jewelry, though – flawless, perfect, amazing.
Julia Roberts in Dolce & Gabbana. Contrary to what Julia might think, oxford shirts don’t look good under strapless gowns. I love Julia though. Love her so much.
Lena Dunham in Zac Posen. I am torn – I think the color looks great on her but it is ill-fitting. But she really seems to love it.
Paula Patton in Stephane Rolland. No surprise here, worst of the night. BTW, who is Paula Patton?
Rashida Jones in Fausto Puglisi. Palm trees don’t make good dress decor.
